In this book, a boy named Clay gets a package in the mail with 13 tapes inside. He listens to the tapes and hears Hannah Baker's voice. He got those tapes after Hannah Baker committed suicide. At first he didn't want anything to do with her tapes. In his mind he thought that Hannah should have buried her secrets with her. But Hannah's voice tells Clay that his name is in her tapes and that in some way, he is responsible for her death. He decideds to finish listening to all the 13 tapes through the night, going around in certain spots in his town. But the big question that is on his mind is, Why am I in theses tapes? Because he thinks he did nothing wrong.
